Who is behind moshito design anyway?

Who am I? That’s a really good question. I don’t think I even know! But I will be happy to tell you a little bit about me and how Moshito Design was born.

So, the story about me begins with ... I have not always been a surface pattern designer. Shock! I started as a Biology student and went on to become a scientific researcher.

But when it got time to start our family I couldn't see how to fit my work schedule with having a baby. A baby, that, by the way, I wanted to raise myself. Yes, I am that crazy!

Around the same time my husband joined the Foreign Service and our first assignment was Moscow, Russia! (If you know anything about me, you know how much I love the cold - I hate it!)

Obviously, I didn't figure it all out right away. I was just in the middle of changing diapers day AND night. Waiting for another poop explosion (if you are parent you know exactly what I mean… if you are not, it’s definitely something to look into it before you commit!). I was literally on survival mode, trying to squeeze in any sun the Russian winter gave me to stay afloat.

Our second baby came when we were moving to Bogota, Colombia. While we were there, I started to sew. I was sewing a lot for my girls. It was my therapy and I LOVED it. Until one day, my oldest asked me for a dinosaur pattern. I had no idea (that on top of the newborn poop explosions) a toddler could be so opinionated. But, she didn't like any of the patterns I showed her. So, I thought... I will make it! I will design it myself. So, I did.

Not so fast! Let me be clear. It didn't happen overnight. We had another international move to prepare for. That took priority. Once we were settled in our new home in Brussels, Belgium and right as the pandemic closed down the whole world (including my daughters' school), I received my iPad, iPen, and subscription to Adobe to being my journey as a surface pattern designer.

Great timing, huh? But I survived. We survived. The pandemic gave me the opportunity (because you always have to look at the bright side of things, right?) to included my girls vision on my patterns (not only that but lots of fingerprints and sticky stuff on my iPad, among other things). We were all day together, so they were my biggest fans but also my biggest critics!

Jurassic Walk

This is one of my very first collection fabric collections I ever designed for my little baby that was in love with dinosaurs back then!

It took lots and lots of hours with my good friend Google. Sometimes, my friend gives me exactly what I need, sometimes it doesn’t. To be honest, sometimes I didn’t even know what questions to ask… BUT!

Two years later, here I am in Nairobi, Kenia! Working on my dream job, that I can take anywhere with me. The best part? I love doing it so much, that even when we are on vacation at the beach or in a lovely Greek village, I take out my iPad or watercolours and have fun with my girls!

I created it many different color ways. Which one is your favorite?

I want the same for you! To find something that you enjoy doing, that you are passionate about! I want you to know that it doesn't matter how old are you or what your background is. YOU CAN DO IT!

I am here to cheer for you, what else could you need?

Please, tell me your story! I'd love to hear more about you and get to know you better. You can instagram me, facebook me, email me,… I guess that’s it. You can’t pinterest me… at least, I don’t think so. But, it is hard for me to keep up with the socials! Or just surprise me! I’d love to hear from you any form you choose!
