half a yard = one cute sewing top

When my girls were little, a half yard of fabric was enough for so many of their clothes. Fast forward to today, at 7 and 9 years old, a half yard doesn't go as far as it used to. But let me share a secret: I found a pattern that still works for my girls with just half a yard! It’s cute, modern, and perfect when you don’t have a lot of fabric on hand. I’m talking about the Niagara Top from Pattern Niche.

The Niagara Top from Pattern Niche

The Niagara Top is a fantastic pattern, especially for those of us with a stash of beautiful fabrics in limited quantities. This pattern is a gem because it’s divided into two pieces, making it possible to create a stylish top for a 10-year-old with just half a yard of fabric. Yes, you heard that right—half a yard!

Why the Niagara Top is Perfect for Your Little Ones

I love to make clothes for my girls. I'm always on the lookout for patterns that not only showcase my designs but also maximize fabric usage (because you know, fabric is not cheap these days). The Niagara Top does just that. The design cleverly splits the top into two pieces, allowing you to make the most of your fabric, even when you’re working with a small amount. This is especially great for those special fabrics you’ve been saving, where you might not have a lot left but still want to create something special.

Not only is the Niagara Top a great way to use up those small pieces of fabric, but it’s also a versatile pattern that can be dressed up or down. Whether you're using a bold, playful print for a casual day out or a more subtle, elegant pattern for a special occasion, this top is just perfect!

Even more, it’s not just a top, it comes also as dress for girls and women. Do you want more options… well, it comes several options for sleeves or no sleeves! It also offers several neck shapes and the option to add cute buttons!

I don’t think you can ask for more. If you are ready to try out this fantastic patter, you can find the Niagara Top on the Pattern Niche website. It’s a downloadable pattern, so you can get started right away.

LESS THAN A HALF YARD

This is the piece I had. I didn’t measure it but it was not big. However, it was enough for a top for my 7 year old because you break the top into two pieces.

I know I always say it, but I LOVE sewing. It's kind of amazing that you begin with a piece fabric and end up with something useful. I have been sewing now for a while but sometimes my head still thinks:  "I made my daughters whole outfit. That's amazing".
